Mums showed their creative side at SSIA’s twilight market

South Sydney Indian Association (SSIA) held a special twilight market at Mortdale Community Center on December 10, 2017 with gifts galore and food.

An initiative by SSIA, the market was a true showcase of the other side of mum entrepreneurs, who despite their busy life and commitments are focused to achieve their dream through their creativity.

As the festive season was around, SSIA’s members took this initiative to bring all the different gift ideas under one roof, thereby making the life of the buyers easier.

Home-made crafts of all kinds were showcased and sold, as well as plants, clothes and plenty of food.

From  traditional Jewellery, clothing , heena tattooing , candles, cakes , cookies , handbags , home decorations, cosmetics to  hand-made decorations and  sellers selling self-switched Christmas  gifts  there was something or the other for everyone to choose from and  to present to their loved ones.

There were 22 stalls in total including 13 Candles , KJ Divine Candles, Ishta Handicrafts, Lit Collections, Bosheike Collective , Desire Creations , Maa , Sohi,  Stickee , Hand Made Collections, Just Crafted , Herti Hladik, Made with Love, Bag Affair, The Lippy Bar, Henna by Adi , Pure Soul Henna , Just Add Glitter Face and Body Art Green Thumb,  BUPA , The Cake Castle  and a food stall by SSIA’s stall.

One of the stall holders at the market said, “It is not always about business, obviously we can’t expect the business to take off in one day but such markets provide an exposure to the business and helps in networking. Moreover it provides a networking opportunity.”

Shweta Doke, one of the Committee members of SSIA said, “Ramya Badrinath, one of SSIA committee member mainly did all the ground work for this market. Along with her, I had the opportunity to know these hard working females and spend great time till the actual event on December 10, 2017, working on the nitty-gritties.”

“Our team’s initial idea was to host a small Christmas event. That would have been nice, but then we thought why not to host a twilight market where we would involve many mumpreneurs,” adds Shweta.

“Through twilight market we wanted to help mumpreneurs within South Sydney area by giving exposure to their business and what can be a better time than Christmas to hold a market. There are many mumpreneurs who are running their small businesses from home and these markets provide them an opportunity to connect with  the customers directly.  Christmas is a time when everyone is looking for gifts, that is why we thought of holding the twilight market before Christmas.”

“Most of the stall holders were quite happy with the response and we have received positive feedback so far, but yes you can’t be perfect and from this market we have learnt few things which we will definitely consider while holding our next market.”
