Sue organised charity dinner to mark her 60th birthday celebrations

There are very few people who visualise things differently and then make up their mind to shape their objectives, Sue Advani is one among them.

Sue Advani decided not to have birthday present this year, but she’s not complaining. Instead, she celebrated her birthday by raising funds for the Westmead Hospital.

This year on her 60th birthday besides the usual celebrations she organised a dinner at the Parravilla Function Lounge on August 1, for her friends and family and asked people to donate money to Children Hospital Westmead, Oncology Ward instead of buying her a card or gift.

As it was her 60th birthday, Sue wanted to make it different. Being a cancer survivor she has a special bond with the people suffering from this deadly disease and is always eager to do something or the other for the cancer patients.

Speaking about her birthday charity event, Sue said, “At this stage of life you have almost what you want, so it is better if that money could be spent on charity. There are few presents or gifts that would mean as much as raising money for such a good cause”.

“My idea was to encourage people to donate money for charity on my Birthday. I love raising funds for different occasions. Even we raised funds on our 25th wedding Anniversary celebrations”.

“The reason for why I chose Oncology Ward is that I am a Cancer survivor and even a little contribution can save some one’s life.”

Recalling her father’s words, Sue said, “My father used to tell us that whenever you are happy in your life try to make others happy.  Doing something for charity gives me immense pleasure and I love doing it”.

Sue migrated to Australia as a newlywed bride in 1980 and started her family here. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Bombay University. After coming to Australia Sue did her Master’s in Transport Economics from Macquarie University and later did Post-Graduate Diploma in Project Management.

She has worked in senior executive positions with RailCorp and retired recently as a Group Program Manager for RailCorp’s, Waratah Train Project.

She has been involved in community related works for many years now.   She  remained  President of United Indian Associations, long- term President of Sydney Sindhi Association, Chair of United Indian Associations Women’s Steering Committee, which works with Indian Consulate and service providers to assist women in distress, member of previous Australian Federal Government’s Multicultural Consultative Committee and current Chief Operating Officer of SEVA International Inc working on projects with Department of Social Services and Ethnic Communities Council of NSW, Breast screen NSW and SEVA’s Saheli Women’s Group.

Besides this, being a part of the Sindhi Association, every year they raise money and sponsor the education of 4 children in India.

Passionate about making a difference through fund raising for charities Sue has raised funds for Vic Bushfire tragedy, Jeev Sewa Sansthan India (education and eye camp for 100 people), Narayan Sewa Sansthan India, Cancer Council and Westmead Children’s Hospital.
