Motorists traveling westbound on the Hills M2 motorway will now see a consistent 100km/h speed limit along the full road.

The Hills M2 extends from Delhi Road to the entrance of the Westlink M7 at North Ryde.

Important safety work has been completed to ensure the 21km road will safely allow greater speed and capacity.  The work included widening bus lanes to prevent buses stopping on the motorway.

The majority of the M2 eastbound will also be 100 km/h, with the exception of maintenance works near Vimeira Road in Marsfield. This work is set for completion in early 2015, at which time eastbound lanes will return to 100 km/h.

Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay welcomed the completion of the upgrade and said the work will deliver faster travel times for the 100,000 motorists that use the road daily.

“Motorists using the Hills M2 instead of the alternative Epping Road route in the morning will have an average travel time savings of 36 minutes”,  Gay said.

“In the afternoon, for motorists using the Hills M2 instead of Epping Road route, an average journey will take 41 minutes less”.
