24 new fire-fighters have been officially recruited into the ranks of Fire & Rescue NSW, after a gruelling 13-week training course.
The new recruits attended an official graduation ceremony at the FRNSW State Training College in Alexandria, Sydney.
The recruits were selected from thousands of men and women who applied for fire-fighting positions last year. Minister for Police and Emergency Services Stuart Ayres congratulated the new recruits on successfully completing their training.
“I wish these men and women well in what is an important, but sometimes dangerous career, and I thank them for choosing a profession dedicated to protecting lives, property and the environment of NSW,” Minister Ayres said.
The newly qualified fire-fighters are trained in fire-fighting, road crash rescue, high-angle rescue, community risk management, fire science and hazardous materials response. They will now join fire crews across the Sydney metropolitan area, including Rydalmere, Sydney city, Woollahra and Leichhardt.
Ayres said he was pleased to see the response to FRNSW’s 2013 recruitment drive reflect the diversity of communities across NSW.
“We want communities throughout NSW to be served by a modern and dynamic fire-fighting workforce that reflects the diversity, culture and skills of society,” Ayres said.
