NSW Premier Mike Baird will make his first official visit to China in September to strengthen economic and cultural ties.

The 2-day visit will be  Baird’s first overseas mission as  Premier of NSW.  Baird is looking to promote trade between NSW and China, which has the world’s second-largest economy.

The Premier will be visiting the cities of Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing to meet with senior government leaders, business leaders and potential investors. Baird said the talks will focus on the areas of tourism, education and financial services.

China is currently the State’s biggest tourism and education market, with NSW welcoming over 400,000 visitors and around 30% of international student enrolments from China each year.

“I will reinforce the message that NSW is open for business with China, which is our number one trading partner and biggest source of international tourists and visitors”,  Baird said.

“I look forward to visiting China for the first time as Premier to continue the great friendship and partnership between NSW and China”.
