Robertson confirms labor will not prefer One Nation at March election

NSW Labor has reaffirmed its staunch opposition to the divisive politics of One Nation – as Pauline Hanson announces her return to the helm of the party.

“It is disappointing that the single most divisive figure in Australian politics over the past few decades is seeking to make a political comeback after having been rejected by voters so many times,” Opposition Leader John Robertson said.

“I want to be very clear. NSW Labor will not tolerate the anti-multicultural politics of One Nation.

“If One Nation decide to contest the 2015 election, Labor will not be providing them with our preferences.

“And Labor will never support a candidate with links to One Nation – unlike the Liberals, whose Member for The Entrance is a former One Nation candidate and party official.

“Multiculturalism is what makes our state such a great place to live – and we will not tolerate the fear-mongering of One Nation here.”

Shadow Minister for Citizenship and Communities Guy Zangari added, “NSW is a shining example of multiculturalism – our migrant communities built this state, and we will not tolerate those who seek to divide us.

“You’d think someone like Pauline Hanson would have seen the writing on the wall back in the 1990s –or the many times since then she’s been rejected by the electorate in both NSW and Queensland”.

“It was Labor who stood up to Pauline Hanson back in the 1990s while John Howard dithered and dallied. Not only is she alarmist and divisive, her politics just make no sense”.

“The likes of Pauline Hanson and her One Nation party members are not welcome in NSW Parliament.”
