NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Services Andrew Stoner said that the eligible businesses, organisations and community groups only have until 15 August to bid for funding through the NSW Government’s 2014-15 Resources for Regions program.

“Time is running out for communities to submit Expressions of Interest for this year’s Resources for Regions program,” Stoner said.

“There is $89.3 million in total funding available this year and I encourage organisations in Broken Hill, Cessnock, Maitland,  Cobar, Lithgow, Mid-Western Regional, Muswellbrook, Narrabri, Singleton, Newcastle and Wollongong to get their submissions in.

“Resources for Regions funding is available for projects that provide physical and social infrastructure to local governments, businesses, non-government groups and community groups in mining affected areas in NSW.

“Eligibility for funding under the latest round of the program has been broadened to include more local government areas (LGAs) than ever before so it’s important to get Expressions of Interest in by 15 August.”

Stoner said the NSW Government has committed more than $215 million to Resources for Regions over four years to assist mining affected communities.“Mining is an important contributor to the NSW economy, but it puts extra pressure on everything from schools to hospitals, roads to recreational facilities and housing to childcare services,”  Stoner said.

“The NSW Government recognises the need to provide tangible support to these communities to help relieve that pressure and ensure long term economic viability.

“So far, $128 million has been allocated to 24 projects, including upgrades to regional airports, bridges and roads, across regions affected by mining activity.”
